LIONS CLUB SWIMARATHON

Well done to Vanessa, Sam and Cassie who swam an amazing 106 lengths at the Swimarathon on 15th October.  They raised a total of £300 of which the Pre School will receive £150!  Our thanks go to them, and to everyone who gave their support and sponsored this popular event.

OFSTED

We are thrilled with our recent Ofsted report which is now available for you to view by clicking this link.  There were 16 areas of inspection in total, we received 'Good' in 12 areas and 'Outstanding' in 4 areas, this is the best Ofsted report we have ever received!

PRE-SCHOOL SAYS FAREWELL

There aren’t many people who can claim to have shaped the future of most of the parish’s children for over three decades but Lyn Gotch can and  after 33 years’ service working with pre-school children in Langton, Lyn will be retiring in July. She will be handing over the reins of St George’s Pre-school to Sam Turner who will become the new  Leader in September.

Lyn first started working with children when she opened a play group with two friends in Langton in 1978. This started off in the Village Hall but subsequently moved to the Scout Hut.

In 1998, with the start of the Government Voucher Scheme, the play group moved to St George’s and became a Pre-school. Over the years, Lyn has been Leader a number of times and taken on the arduous paper work when no one else wanted it but she has always kept the children as her priority. The fondness that the children have for her is summed up by Pre-schoolers past and present. Danielle Egan, 8, said: “She was always kind, caring and patient with us... even when we were naughty.” And current Pre-schooler, Charlie Millman, 3, simply said: “She’s brilliant.” Lyn leaves the Pre-school on a high note as it has just received 12 ‘Good’ and four ‘Outstanding’ grades in its recent OFSTED which is a really super achievement. Lyn will be sorely missed and the Pre-school will be celebrating her outstanding contribution at a Tea Party at the School on 20 July at 2pm. Pupils and parents past and present are welcome to attend and, if you would like to, you can hand in contributions for her collection at the School.

Thanks

As well as a huge ‘thank you’ to Lyn for her marathon service to Pre-school. There are also thanks to be extended to Greg Bell who managed to raise well over £700 for the Pre-school by completing his marathon cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

RECORD TIME FOR MARATHON CYCLE

Greg Bell, who set off on a sponsored cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats at the beginning of May, has completed his trip in record time. He reached John O’Groats in 13 days and, in doing so, has raised hundreds of pounds for Langton Pre-School.

Vanessa Millman, the Pre-school Chairman said: “We are really grateful to Greg for supporting the Pre-school in this way and hope he didn’t get too many blisters. We are trying to persuade him to go from Pole to Pole next year!” Initially, Greg was going to take his time on the trip and do some sightseeing on the way but in the end he decided to sprint for the finish and leave the sightseeing for the homeward journey by car!

Pre-School gets a Makeover Children celebrating Preschool makeover!

Work has been going on over the summer to give the Pre-school a long overdue makeover in readiness for the beginning of the new term.  The makeover has been funded by donations from parents and wellwishers but it has also been supported by local businesses such as Realwood Flooring, Purbeck Furnishing and Jewsons who donated all the paint.

Vanessa Bell, the Pre-school Treasurer, said: "We are so grateful to the people and businesses who have given donations so that this work can be carried out.  We also have to thank all the people who have given their time to help clean and paint, etc.  We are really pleased that we have created a welcoming, fun and safe environment both for those children who are returning to Pre-school and for those who will be coming to Pre-school for the first time."
